Preparation and phytotoxicity evaluation of cellulose acetate nanoparticles
The study focuses on particle characterization and, importantly, evaluates the potential phytotoxic, cytotoxic, and genotoxic effects of these nanoparticles using the widely accepted Allium cepa plant assay.
The results showed that cellulose acetate nanoparticles did not negatively affect seed germination, root growth, chromosome integrity, micronucleus formation, or other indicators of plant toxicity under the tested conditions. The nanoparticles also retained the characteristic chemical structure of cellulose acetate after processing. These findings suggest that cellulose acetate nanoparticles can serve as environmentally friendly carrier systems for agricultural inputs such as pesticides or fertilizers. The work is relevant for the development of sustainable agrochemical delivery technologies, demonstrating how a renewable and biodegradable cellulose acetate platform may support innovation while helping to reduce concerns associated with the environmental impact of nanoparticle-based products.
